Haleon Operates Rooftop Solar System at Pulogadung Facility with SUN Energy to Drive Sustainable Medicine Production

Jakarta, January 22, 2025 — Amid the rising demand for consumer healthcare products globally, the healthcare industry is being urged to adopt stronger sustainability standards. In addition to ensuring product safety and quality, companies must also manage operational emissions more responsibly. Haleon, a global consumer health company behind brands like Panadol, Sensodyne, Actifed, and Voltaren, has made sustainability a core pillar through its commitment to "Better Everyday Health with Humanity," emphasizing that human health is inseparable from the health of the planet. In line with this commitment, Haleon consistently implements various sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy.

Haleon Indonesia today officially launched the operation of a Rooftop Solar Energy System at its manufacturing facility in Pulogadung, East Jakarta. This facility plays a key role not only in meeting domestic market demand but also in supplying products to several countries in Southeast Asia, making it one of Haleon's strategic manufacturing sites in its global sustainability blueprint. The solar system initiative is an important step in reducing operational emissions while strengthening the clean energy transition in the national healthcare sector.

This 416.97 kWp rooftop solar system is projected to generate approximately 577,647 kWh of green energy per year. The use of renewable energy is expected to reduce over 449 tons of CO₂e annually, equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of more than 7,460 trees every year. This clean energy will directly support the production process of various consumer healthcare products made in Indonesia for both local and regional markets.

Suwandi Yulia Putra, Director of Pulogadung Site - Haleon Indonesia, stated that the operation of this rooftop solar system is a concrete demonstration of the global commitment translated into operational action on the ground. “In the healthcare industry, sustainability is no longer an additional initiative, but a core commitment of the company. The operation of our first rooftop solar system in Indonesia is a significant milestone in Haleon’s decarbonization journey. This step not only strengthens our global commitment but also makes a real contribution to carbon emission reduction in Indonesia’s healthcare industry,” Suwandi said after the inauguration ceremony of the rooftop solar system.

This rooftop solar project was realized through collaboration with SUN Energy, a provider of Sustainability-as-a-Service focused on developing solar power solutions for industrial and commercial sectors. Jefferson Kuesar, CEO of SUN Energy, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the decarbonization of industries. “The healthcare industry has very stringent operational standards. When companies like Haleon choose renewable energy, it sends a strong message that energy transition is a cross-sector need. SUN Energy is ready to be a strategic partner in building efficient, low-emission, and sustainable production processes,” explained Jefferson.

More than just a renewable energy project, this initiative represents a strategic step in Haleon’s long-term journey to strengthen greener, more efficient, and responsible operational standards across its facilities. SUN Energy sees the healthcare sector as one with great potential in accelerating the adoption of clean energy, in line with the rising demand for safe, high-quality healthcare products produced sustainably.
