Surabaya, 11 December 2025 — SUN Energy, a Sustainability-as-a-Service provider for the industrial sector, reaffirmed its role as a strategic partner for both industry players and the Government in accelerating the implementation of the Green Industry Standard (Standar Industri Hijau/SIH) in East Java. As Indonesia’s second-largest manufacturing hub, East Java’s economy is dominated by the manufacturing sector, which contributed 31.16% to the province’s regional economy in Q3 2025. This structure reflects the region’s high industrial energy demand, making the acceleration of low-carbon operations and compliance with Green Industry Standards a critical agenda and a key determinant of regional industrial competitiveness.
As of 2025, SUN Energy has implemented more than 40 industrial solar energy projects in East Java, with a total installed capacity exceeding 40 MW. On an annual basis, these solar installations generate more than 36 million kWh of clean electricity, reduce over 28,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, and deliver environmental benefits equivalent to planting more than 467,000 trees. The five fastest-growing industry sectors among SUN Energy’s business partners in the province include paper manufacturing, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), automotive components, plastics and packaging, and wood processing.
To enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector, East Java has taken proactive steps to accelerate its transition toward more efficient and low-emission operations. Since 2023, the East Java Provincial Government has established the East Java Green Industry Forum (Forum Industri Hijau Jatim) as a cross-stakeholder collaboration platform. This initiative aims to strengthen SIH implementation, promote energy efficiency, and ensure that local industries are prepared to face global regulatory and market pressures, including:
Drs. Arif Khamzah, M.Si., Head of Industrial Empowerment at the East Java Provincial Industry and Trade Office, emphasized the importance of this collective approach: “Green Industry provides a clear direction for industries to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and strengthen competitiveness. We continue to encourage the accelerated implementation of Green Industry as the foundation for sustainable industrial transformation in East Java. Green industry certification is no longer merely a regulatory requirement, it is becoming a key parameter for global export-oriented competitiveness and long-term industrial viability.”
In response to these policy directions, SUN Energy positions itself as a catalyst for industrial transformation by delivering integrated sustainability solutions. Oky Gunawan, Chief Sales Officer of SUN Energy, stated “The industrial sector must undergo transformation to remain resilient amid increasingly intense competition, both locally and globally. The push to adopt sustainable practices by prioritizing low-emission operations must be addressed without delay. Starting as a solar energy solutions provider, SUN Energy has evolved into a Sustainability-as-a-Service company, ensuring emission reduction, cost efficiency, and SIH compliance through a single integrated ecosystem, covering solar energy, battery storage systems, water management, and operational vehicle electrification. This represents the most pragmatic pathway for industrial players in East Java.”
SUN Energy’s commitment to industrial transformation in East Java is further reinforced through the development of an integrated sustainability business ecosystem. Under its Sustainability-as-a-Service approach, the SUN Group delivers end-to-end solutions that include industrial and commercial solar energy system installations, Energy Storage Systems (ESS) to optimize renewable energy utilization, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and fleet electrification, and sustainable recycled water management. This ecosystem-based approach aligns closely with the East Java Provincial Government’s strategy to strengthen industrial readiness for national and global green transformation.
Several companies in East Java have already implemented, and even achieved certification under, the Green Industry Standard. Eko Hajar Prakoeswo, Quality Assurance & Sustainability Manager of PT Avia Avian Tbk, shared: “For us, the initiative to achieve low-carbon operations is part of a business strategy to enhance competitiveness while supporting the government’s industrial decarbonization targets. One of these efforts is our collaboration with SUN Energy to implement solar energy at our production facilities. We are building a stronger renewable energy foundation, improving operational efficiency, and meeting various environmental standards demanded by the market. This initiative is a key part of our long-term commitment to responsible and environmentally friendly industrial practices.”
In the machinery sector, PT Pakarti Riken Indonesia has been operating a 2.6 MW solar energy system with SUN Energy to support its energy-intensive production processes. The company emphasized that solar energy adoption is part of its strategy to maintain competitiveness while complying with evolving sustainability standards. “As an automotive component manufacturer with highly energy-intensive production processes, stability and efficiency are our top priorities. Implementing solar energy with SUN Energy is a strategic step to strengthen energy resilience while reducing long-term operational costs. Beyond emission reduction, this solution enhances our readiness to meet increasingly stringent global automotive industry regulations related to carbon footprint. This step is critical to ensuring our facilities remain competitive and compliant with evolving international sustainability standards,” said Roni Herwanto, Utility Manager of PT Pakarti Riken Indonesia.
Field observations indicate that solar energy technology, especially when deployed as part of an integrated sustainability solution, delivers significant energy efficiency gains, measurable emission reductions, improved SIH compliance, and enhanced corporate reputation and export product value. SUN Energy invites industrial players in East Java to take proactive steps in meeting the Green Industry Standard (SIH) through integrated, low-risk Sustainability-as-a-Service solutions, while contributing to Indonesia’s Net Zero Emissions 2060 target.
