SUN Energy Strengthens Its Role as a Strategic Partner for Central Java Industries in Accelerating the Low-Carbon Energy

Semarang, 2 December 2025 — SUN Energy, a Sustainability-as-a-Service provider for the industrial sector, reaffirmed its position as a strategic partner for industries in Central Java in accelerating the energy transition toward low-carbon operations. This commitment aligns with the province’s target to achieve a 21.32% New and Renewable Energy (NRE) mix by 2025.

Through its integrated sustainability services, ranging from end-to-end solar energy installations, energy storage technologies, recycled water management, to vehicle electrification, SUN Energy’s solutions are designed to support compliance with the Green Industry Standard (Standar Industri Hijau/SIH) while improving operational efficiency amid increasing global demand for environmentally responsible business practices.

Green Industry Momentum in Central Java

The Indonesian government continues to encourage the transformation toward green industry through strengthened regulations and the implementation of the Green Industry Standard (SIH), an instrument used to ensure that national industries operate efficiently, competitively, and in line with Indonesia’s commitment to Net Zero Emissions by 2060.

The adoption of SIH and growing awareness of energy efficiency are reflected in the rapid growth of solar energy adoption in Central Java. SUN Energy currently serves more than 30 companies in the province with a total installed capacity of 22 MW. These implementations have generated more than 26 million kWh of clean energy and reduced over 20 million kilograms of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to planting approximately 330,000 trees. Key industry sectors include Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), tobacco, textiles, furniture, and electronic manufacturing.

“Green Industry provides a clear direction for industries to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and strengthen competitiveness,” said Iwan Indrawan, Head of the Non-Agro Industry Monitoring and Control Working Group at the Central Java Provincial Industry and Trade Office.
“We continue to encourage the acceleration of Green Industry implementation as the foundation of industrial transformation in Central Java. The adoption of clean energy is essential to ensure industries remain competitive amid global sustainability demands,” he added.

Cross-Sector Collaboration as a Key Enabler

Responding to these policy drivers, the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) emphasized that successful industrial decarbonization requires a combination of strong policies, enhanced technical capacity, and access to low-carbon technologies.

“Many industries see significant opportunities from energy efficiency and emission reduction, but they still need support in terms of financing and technical understanding. Cross-sector collaboration involving the private sector, government, financial institutions, and other stakeholders will be critical in accelerating the achievement of Net Zero Emissions 2060,” said Rahmat Jaya Eka Syahputra, Coordinator for Industrial Net-Zero Stakeholder Engagement at IESR.

The Role of the SUN Group: An Integrated Sustainability Ecosystem

The use of renewable energy in Indonesia’s industrial sector has grown rapidly over the past three years, particularly within manufacturing industries. In addition to efficiency drivers, global market requirements, such as those from the European Union, have further accelerated adoption.

To address the challenges faced by industries in transitioning to low-carbon operations, the SUN Group delivers an integrated sustainability ecosystem that includes:

  • Solar energy system installations for industrial facilities
  • Battery systems and energy storage solutions
  • Sustainable water management
  • Fleet electrification and EV infrastructure

“Industries in Central Java are demonstrating increasing readiness to transform,” said Oky Gunawan, Chief Sales Officer of SUN Energy.
“At this moment, SUN Energy is taking on a new role. Today, we are not just talking about installing solar energy systems, we are evolving into a Sustainability-as-a-Service provider, helping industries reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and meet global standards within a single integrated ecosystem.”

Impact and Benefits for Industrial Players

Industrial players in Central Java are beginning to experience tangible benefits from clean energy adoption. “The use of solar energy systems is a strategic step to increase renewable energy utilization while meeting sustainability standards. Our collaboration with SUN Energy has helped reduce operational emissions and strengthen environmental compliance. This initiative is a key part of our long-term commitment to responsible industrial practices,” said Ribawani Shinta Sulistyaningtyas, Compliance Head of PT Sumber Bintang Rejeki, one of the companies that has implemented solar energy at its operational facilities.

A similar trend is seen among other companies in Central Java leveraging solar energy to enhance industrial competitiveness. “Energy efficiency and emission reduction have become integral to our strategy at Kayu Lapis. The adoption of solar energy systems has helped reduce fossil-based energy consumption while strengthening sustainability value across the global supply chain. Our experience over the past few months has reinforced our decision to further increase renewable energy utilization as part of industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency initiatives,” said Didik Adishila, Area Head of PT Kayu Lapis Indonesia.

SUN Energy encourages industrial players in Central Java to take proactive steps in accelerating SIH implementation. The adoption of integrated solutions and accessible financing is expected to help industries improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and strengthen global competitiveness.
