SUN Energy Leads Green Dialogue in Semarang through Green Future Summit 2024

As part of its continued commitment to supporting Indonesia’s transition toward cleaner energy sources, SUN Energy hosted the second leg of the Green Future Summit 2024 in Semarang, held at Hotel Tentrem on December 7, 2024. This initiative aligns with the national agenda to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2060.

As the economic hub of Central Java, Semarang holds significant potential in implementing green industry practices. The summit featured a number of notable speakers, including Jeffrey Chandra, Plant Manager of Sido Muncul; Roni Susanto Wiyono, Corporate Engineering Head of Garudafood; Christian Sinaga, Director at PT PricewaterhouseCoopers Indonesia Advisory; Sakina Rosellasari, Head of the Central Java Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office; Sugeng Widodo, General Manager of PLN UID Central Java and Yogyakarta; and Agus Umar Yasin, Chair of the Indonesian Water Association.

Green Future Summit 2024 served as a platform for productive dialogue and cross-sector collaboration among stakeholders from industry, government, academia, and the broader community. The event aimed to raise awareness of the urgent need for climate action and emphasize the critical role of renewable energy in driving that change. More than just a knowledge-sharing forum, the summit facilitated the development of actionable solutions and policy insights to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy (RE), with contributions from both public and private sectors.

In his presentation, Sugeng Widodo of PLN noted that current utilization of RE in Indonesia remains at only 0.3% of its total potential, despite the country's rich, diverse, and geographically distributed renewable resources. One of the most promising sources is solar power (PLTS). SUN Energy, with its focus on solar energy solutions, plays a crucial role in expanding the adoption of solar PV systems across Indonesia. By offering advanced solar panel technology, the company contributes not only to reducing dependency on fossil fuels but also to advancing national efforts for a sustainable energy transition and environmental resilience.

Beyond solar energy, SUN Energy is also investing in sustainable water treatment solutions for industrial and commercial sectors through NIRA, its water innovation platform. According to Agus Umar Yasin of the Indonesian Water Association, one of the main challenges facing industrial water management today is the reluctance to invest in modern water treatment systems. Many industries still underutilize water resources and fail to meet basic water quality standards. SUN Energy, through NIRA, is addressing this issue by providing practical and environmentally sustainable water management technologies.

Through the Green Future Summit 2024, SUN Energy aims to inspire meaningful action among all stakeholders, encouraging them to collaborate in developing real, scalable solutions to climate challenges. The transition to green energy, driven by renewable and regenerative resources, is essential in reducing carbon footprints and minimizing environmental impact. With concrete steps and multi-sectoral cooperation, Indonesia can build a cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally conscious future for generations to come.
