Pasuruan, 28 August 2026 – PT Widatra Bhakti, a pharmaceutical company within the Otsuka Group in Indonesia, has officially commissioned a 2.2 MWp rooftop solar system at its manufacturing facility in Pasuruan, East Java. Developed in partnership with PT Surya Nippon Nusantara (SNN), a joint venture between SUN Energy and Sojitz Corporation, the project supports PT Widatra Bhakti’s transformation towards a green factory through cleaner, more efficient, and lower-carbon energy use.
The initiative reflects the growing importance of renewable energy adoption in strengthening industrial competitiveness. With increasing expectations for efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with environmental standards across global supply chains, the transition towards greener manufacturing goes beyond reducing emissions. It also helps companies build more resilient and competitive operations for the long term.
As one of Indonesia’s leading manufacturers of basic intravenous solutions, PT Widatra Bhakti strives to deliver high-quality products while managing the environmental impact of its production activities. The rooftop solar installation represents a concrete step towards integrating sustainability into its manufacturing operations.
By utilising the roof of its production facility, the company can generate renewable electricity on-site without requiring additional land. The 2.2 MWp system is projected to generate approximately 2,990,007 kWh of clean electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions by up to 2,326 tonnes of CO₂ per year, equivalent to planting approximately 38,615 trees each year.
“Our environmental vision is to achieve net zero by 2050, supported by our mission to eliminate the environmental impact of our business activities. One of our priorities is to reduce CO₂ emissions while maintaining production reliability and product quality. We are taking a phased approach through the use of renewable energy and the adoption of technologies that support the long-term sustainability of our business,” said Betty Zubaida, Factory Director of PT Widatra Bhakti.
The rooftop solar project builds on PT Widatra Bhakti’s ongoing efforts to increase its use of renewable energy. In April 2022, the company purchased Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) issued by PT PLN (Persero). Combining RECs with on-site renewable electricity generation forms part of its strategy to achieve lower-carbon operations.
The initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to accelerate the energy transition and advance green industry development in Indonesia. Collaboration between industrial companies and clean energy technology providers is essential to expanding renewable energy adoption while maintaining the productivity and competitiveness of Indonesia’s industrial sector.
Alongside its clean energy initiatives, PT Widatra Bhakti is cultivating a culture of sustainability by encouraging employees to adopt more environmentally responsible workplace practices. These include reducing the use of bottled drinking water and disposable tableware, as well as promoting its Bring Your Own Tumbler (BYOT) initiative.
As the project developer, SNN is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the rooftop solar system. This approach is designed to ensure system performance, safety, and reliability throughout the partnership, enabling PT Widatra Bhakti to adopt renewable energy technology while maintaining its focus on core production activities.
“We appreciate PT Widatra Bhakti’s trust in SNN. This project demonstrates that clean energy technology can support industrial transformation while maintaining production reliability. We see renewable energy playing an increasingly important role in helping companies improve efficiency, meet their sustainability targets, and strengthen long-term business competitiveness,” said Oky Gunawan, CEO of SNN.
The collaboration between PT Widatra Bhakti and SNN demonstrates how technological innovation, partnerships, and industrial commitment can work together to accelerate the transition towards greener industries. By harnessing solar energy, the company is reducing its operational carbon footprint while contributing to Indonesia’s energy transition and the development of a more sustainable and competitive industrial sector.
