The First and Largest Containerized Microgrid Battery Energy Storage System for Solar Energy Innovation in Indonesia

Jambi, February 18, 2025 – PT Cipta Kridatama (CK), a subsidiary of PT ABM Investama Tbk (ABMM), in collaboration with SUN Energy, has inaugurated Indonesia’s first and largest Containerized Battery Energy Storage System (CBESS) for Solar Power. Located in Jambi, this solar energy system has a capacity of 643.8 kWp and is equipped with a 1 MWh battery storage system housed in a 20-foot container.
As one of Indonesia’s leading integrated mining services companies, PT Cipta Kridatama is committed to continuously enhancing operational efficiency while adopting sustainable solutions in its business operations. Operating in remote locations beyond the reach of the national electricity grid, CK requires a reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly energy source to support mining activities and ensure long-term business sustainability. The implementation of the CBESS solar power plant marks a strategic step for CK in reducing carbon emissions, aligning with ABM Group’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

The CBESS solar energy system at PT Cipta Kridatama Jambi operates off-grid, making it a reliable, self-sustaining energy source without dependence on the national electricity grid. Solar energy generated during the day is stored in batteries and released as needed. Constructed within four months, the solar energy system will supply electricity to various operational facilities, including employee housing, a sports hall, a mosque, and a 24-hour clinic.
With its container-based design, CBESS offers high mobility and flexibility, allowing it to be relocated to different sites as needed. This technology can also be scaled up or combined with other units to enhance energy storage and distribution efficiency, making it an ideal solution for industrial applications.

This solar energy system is part of PT Cipta Kridatama’s commitment to implementing sustainable practices in the industrial sector. By utilizing renewable energy, we contribute to realizing greener and more sustainable mining operations, generating an estimated 849,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually and reducing carbon emissions by 660 tons of CO₂, equivalent to planting over 10,900 trees.”
