In an effort to realize the use of clean energy, a solar power plant (PLTS) project will soon be built on an area of 1 hectare owned by Itera (the Sumatra Institute of Technology) in Lampung Province. In mid-August 2020, three parties consisting of PT Surya Utama Nuansa (SUN Energy), Itera, and Wijaya Karya Energi (Wika Energi) have agreed to form a partnership in building the PLTS project. This PLTS with a capacity of 1 MW is the first and largest ground-mounted PLTS among all universities in Indonesia.

Rector Itera Prof. Ir. Ofyar Z. Tamin, M.Sc, Ph.D, said, “Itera hopes that the construction of this PLTS will be completed soon so that Itera students can immediately carry out research related to the solar energy system which is classified as a new technology.” “If so far students only hear and know the theory, in 2021 they will be able to see and learn directly because the objects and technology are in their own area,” explained Prof.Ofyar in a press statement, Thursday (27/8).

Meanwhile, Donny Safrudin, Head of Sales for SUN Energy, said that the PLTS project was a successful synergy from the Lampung regional government, BUMN, the education sector, and the private sector to increase the use of new and renewable energy for a better energy future. “SUN Energy, as a provider of clean energy access, starting from the design, construction, financing, and maintenance stages of PLTS for the next 25 years, welcomes any initiatives initiated by the education sector to contribute to protecting the environment by using clean energy,” said Donny.

Another industrial collaboration carried out by SUN Energy is the construction of a solar energy system installation in the Diponegoro University (Undip) Vocational School Building, which was inaugurated by President Jokowi via teleconference on August 26, 2020. One of the efforts to improve the quality of education, according to Donny, is by building infrastructure adequate. “Through the installation of solar energy systems carried out by SUN Energy, the electricity load of higher education institutions can be lighter and can become a means of research on new and renewable energy,” he explained. “The installation of PLTS in higher education, besides being able to save electricity costs at universities, is also a means of research in developing science in the field of new and renewable energy,” said Donny.

“SUN Energy invites other higher education institutions to take the initiative to use solar energy systems because SUN Energy can provide solar power systems without upfront costs, which can be beneficial for the development of knowledge of students and lecturers in order to create human resources so they can innovate and benefit Indonesia. , “He said.
